What is Invisalign treatment really like?

If you’ve been thinking about enhancing your smile, you may be wondering how Invisalign works and whether it is the right treatment for you. Here are the answers to questions from patients just like you that are wondering what Invisalign treatment is really like.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign creates a series of custom-made clear aligners made exclusively to fit your teeth by using 3-D computer technology. Each aligner is worn for two weeks, then replaced by the next aligner in the sequence. Wearing the aligners incrementally moves teeth into the final desired position.

How often must I wear my aligners?

Aligners should be worn at least 22 hours every day. Ideally, they are taken out only for eating, brushing and flossing.

Are there any foods I cannot eat while in treatment?

You can eat normally during the course of treatment. One of the advantages of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable. Simply take them out before eating, brush when you are done, and then reinsert them.

Will I experience pain during treatment?

You will feel some temporary discomfort for a few days when a new aligner is placed. This feeling of pressure is normal and is a sign that Invisalign is incrementally moving your teeth toward the desired position.

How often must I visit VanderWall Orthodontics during treatment?

The typical appointment interval for Invisalign patients is every 8-10 weeks. At these visits, Dr. VanderWall will make sure your aligners are fitting correctly and deliver your next series of aligners.

How long will I have to wear Invisalign?

Because each patient and their needs are different, the duration of each Invisalign treatment is different. Treatment can range from a few months to two years based on the severity of the case.
