The custom, removable appliances are an effective, aesthetic and convenient way to get your dream smile. To give you a better idea of how clear aligner treatment works, we’re covering the process step by step.
Consultation with Dr. VanderWall
You’ll visit VanderWall Orthodontics in Cary, Raleigh or Durham for a consultation (you can schedule one here!). We’ll take complimentary digital x-rays and Dr. VanderWall will perform an exam to determine if clear aligner treatment is right for you. He’ll walk you through your treatment options and answer any questions you have. Then, a team member will go over things like your insurance, the cost of Invisalign or Clarity Aligners and our flexible financing options. If you decide you’re ready to dive into clear aligner treatment, we can often take your diagnostic records, including digital impressions, right after your consultation.
Create a Digital, 3D Representation of Your Mouth
A VanderWall Orthodontics team member will take quick, comfortable digital impressions using our iTero ® scanner. The images are sent to our computer and a digital, 3D model of your teeth is created. Dr. VanderWall will plan out your treatment and move each individual tooth into its ideal place directly on the model for maximum precision. He’ll even be able to show you a representation of what your new smile will look like before you start treatment!
Pick Up Your Custom Clear Aligners
Invisalign or 3M will use advanced computer technology to translate Dr. VanderWall’s treatment instructions into a sequence of finely calibrated aligners. Each set of aligners is pre-programmed to achieve certain tooth movements. Once your aligners have been printed and delivered to our office, you’ll pick them up and wear them for about 20 to 22 hours per day, taking them out to eat, drink, and brush and floss your teeth.
Wear New Aligners According to Your Treatment Plan
You’ll switch to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks, depending on your treatment plan. As you make your way through the series of aligners, your teeth will incrementally shift into place and your new smile will take shape right before your eyes. While Invisalign and Clarity Aligners don’t require adjustments, you’ll still visit our office every six to eight weeks so Dr. VanderWall can check on your progress.
Enjoy Your New Smile
When you remove your final set of Clarity or Invisalign aligners, you’ll have a healthy bite and beautiful smile to show for it. We’ll take one more set of digital impressions so that we can create a custom retainer to hold your teeth in their new places. Don’t worry, we offer removable, clear retainers that work like your aligners and eventually, you’ll only have to wear your retainer at night. Wearing a retainer is the key to ensuring your results last a lifetime.
