The Braces Process Explained
From getting your braces put on to the big reveal of your brand new smile, we’re walking you through the braces procedure. Consultation
When you visit us for your free consultation, we’ll greet you with a smile before showing you around our comfortable, state-of-the-art office. A team member will take complimentary digital x-rays and then Dr. VanderWall will perform a thorough exam. He’ll use his findings to develop an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment recommendations. You’ll chat with Dr. VanderWall about your treatment options and he’ll answer any questions you have.
A team member will then go over things like the cost of braces procedure, your insurance and our flexible financing options, including no down payment for traditional braces and low monthly payments. If you decide you’re ready to start your braces treatment, we can complete your diagnostic records right after your consultation, saving you from having to make an extra trip to our office.
Get Your Braces Put On
A lot of patients ask, does getting braces put on hurt? The answer is, not at all. Getting braces put on is painless, doesn’t involve needles and takes less than an hour. Dr. VanderWall will use a special adhesive to bond the brackets to the front or back of your teeth, depending on the type of braces you chose. He’ll then thread the archwires through the brackets. For conventional braces, he’ll secure the wires with tiny elastics. Before you head out with your new hardware, we’ll fill you in on everything you need to know about caring for your braces and your teeth during your treatment.
Adjustments
You’ll come in for a check-up every six to eight weeks. At these visits, we’ll ensure your treatment is progressing as planned, make any necessary adjustments and answer any questions you have. Some of the types of braces we offer, such as InBrace hidden braces, don’t require tightening, so these regular appointments are generally quick and easy.
Get Your Braces Taken Off
When the momentous occasion arrives, we’ll congratulate you for finishing your treatment and then remove your braces. Getting your braces taken off also doesn’t hurt at all. Dr. VanderWall will use special tools to take out your wires and remove your brackets. He’ll get rid of any leftover adhesive, polish your teeth and let you check out your beautiful, straight smile in the mirror.
When your braces are removed, the teeth have a natural tendency to want to shift back to their old places. The only way to prevent this and lock your bite into place is to wear a retainer. We’ll fit you for a custom retainer so that your results will last a lifetime. Eventually, you’ll only need to wear your retainer at night and, we promise, it won’t seem like a big deal when you see how awesome your new smile looks.
